It is true that so-called liberals haven't helped people in the rust belt and other rural or exurban areas. It's another failure of Democrats that they claim to care, but their policies don't do much. The irony is that part of why they can't do much is because Republicans cut public revenues and then the same voters hit by regressive taxation insist on not raising taxes on the very wealthiest. And they support folks like Trump who say they're fighting for them...when they're really kicking them while they're down. It's a sad state of affairs, and it risks our democracy, which however imperfect is 75% of the way to a true democracy. Plenty worth saving and continuing to build on.
