Lindsey Graham Only Wants Hot-Heads on the Supreme Court. I Say: “Amen.”

Lindsey Graham today took a brave stand: he’s voting no on Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s nomination.

All I can say is: “Bravo, Senator. Bravo.”

The Supreme Court should be reserved first and foremost for men accused of sexual misconduct. I don’t even know why Biden nominated Ketanji Brown Jackson at all. She clearly lacks all the things we look for in the highest court in the land.

How is she supposed to issue effective rulings on equal protections under the law when she’s never violated them? Has she ever once gotten drunk and tried to force herself on someone? You can’t trust someone so sheltered. Has she ever made comments that made her coworkers deeply, deeply uncomfortable? We need someone with that kind of backbone.

How will she deal with conflict? We expect a Supreme Court Justice to have a lengthy track record of personally attacking someone who suggests they may have engaged in illegal conduct. We have gotten zero evidence of that throughout this confirmation process, and it leaves us with questions. How would Ketanji Brown Jackson respond when the chips are down and someone shows up to say she asked them to watch a pornographic movie with her against their will? Sadly, this remains a complete hypothetical.

We also need justices who have utter contempt for the legislative branch. Ideally, we want someone who’s turned beet red while shouting back at questions from the legislators seeking to confirm their nomination. Instead of answering questions calmly, a qualified candidate should evade while raising their voice. Gumption! Energy! That’s what we need.

We also have no idea if Ketanji Brown Jackson will remain entirely silent on the bench for the first couple of decades of her career. No one has asked. Without knowing for sure that she will in fact not participate actively in the court’s proceedings, Graham is right to vote no.

Really, the Democrats have embarrassed themselves. They couldn’t have picked a worse candidate. They should have known better. Graham does, and he’s voting his conscience. Good for him. Good for all of us.
